Roger Wade, Micha Maass & MvM
Three musicians. Three strong personalities. One unmistakable sound.
“LIGHTNIN'” delivers raw, honest blues stripped down to its very essence. Hypnotic Hill Country grooves meet powerful slide guitar, gritty harmonica, driving drums and two distinctive blues voices. Songs about love, loss, longing and life's rough edges — played with conviction, soul and zero compromise.
Michael van Merwyk
is one of Europe's leading blues artists. A multiple German Blues Award winner, he is known for his powerful voice, expressive slide guitar and his unique blend of blues, Americana and roots music. As a modern-day songster, he carries the tradition of the traveling musicians who brought their songs directly to the people.
Roger C. Wade
has been a respected figure on the European blues scene for more than 25 years. Originally from England and now based in Germany, his harmonica playing is raw, authentic and deeply rooted in the classic blues tradition.
Micha Maass
is one of Europe's most celebrated blues and boogie drummers. A multiple German Blues Award winner, he has performed with legends including Mojo Buford, Gene Taylor and H-Bomb Ferguson, and founded the renowned Blue Wave Festival. His powerful groove provides the heartbeat of the band.
Together, “LIGHTNIN'” plays blues the way it was meant to be heard: raw, hypnotic and deeply rooted in tradition. Inspired by artists such as Lightnin' Hopkins, Mississippi Fred McDowell, John Lee Hooker, R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Sonny Boy Williamson and Big Joe Williams, the trio creates a sound that is both timeless and alive.
No gimmicks. No unnecessary extras. Just three musicians delivering low down, dirty blues — with heart, soul and uncompromising energy.
